DOT Compliance and Health Screenings

commercial-truckThe U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) number one focus is safety; the foundation of its safety policy is the prevention of accidents and vehicle-related injuries. So to reduce these hazards and occupational health risks, eMedical Urgent Care offers various workplace health services, such as DOT physicals, for employers, which meet the regulations for all drivers of Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs).

Our Comprehensive Approach

eMedical Urgent Care offers a variety of workplace health screenings, labs and X-ray services that can be customized to address the specific corporate needs of all of our clients. Our physicians can provide you with a comprehensive approach to workplace health and we can design a customized program that fits your needs including:

    • Worker’s compensation injury evaluation
    • Drug screening
    • Pre-employment physicals and testing
    • Work and D.O.T. physicals
    • OSHA regulatory compliance support
    • Return-to-work physicals
    • Travel immunizations
    • PPD, Mantoux testing
    •  X-ray services
    • Lab testing
    • Urgent care and treatment of work-related injuries (upper respiratory infections, minor, acute care, minor trauma)

What to Expect

For many, the DOT physical can be stressful, since it can determine the fate of their careers. Being prepared and knowing what to expect from your DOT physical can make all the difference.

The objective of a DOT physical is to evaluate and ensure that each driver is capable and healthy enough to successfully operate a commercial motor vehicle. A driver who has health issues such as high blood pressure, sleep apnea, diabetes or poor vision could be hazardous on the road if their medical conditions become unmanageable. The DOT physical also includes drug and alcohol testing.

DOT Exam

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, after several significant transportation accidents, Congress passed the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991, because they recognized the safety need for ensuring drug- and alcohol-free transportation employees. The DOT is the federal agency responsible for protecting the traveling public and keeping the country’s transportation system safe. One way the DOT accomplishes its mission is by ensuring that transportation employees in safety-sensitive positions — such as the operators of planes, trains and buses — are not using drugs or alcohol on the job. “DOT compliance” means that the employer of safety-sensitive employees is maintaining the required employee drug and alcohol testing programs.

The U.S Department of Transportation requires successful completion of a qualified training program and passing a monitored proficiency demonstration as stated in the CFR 49. If your company is regulated by the DOT, you must comply with workplace drug and alcohol screening. Most CMV drivers are required to take a DOT physical exam every 2 years to maintain their DOT medical certificate.

Keeping the Roads Safe

Keeping the roads safe is extremely important and an especially important goal for companies who hire commercial drivers needing to meet these high safety standards. At eMedical Urgent Care, our medical team is extremely knowledgeable and experienced when it comes to commercial driving regulations. Improve Employee Productivity and Reduce Employer Costs with eMedical Urgent Care Occupational Health Services

Occupational Health ServicesLife today moves at a feverish pace, between work meetings, family business and never ending tasks.

Unfortunately, it’s easy to forget to make time for your lunch let alone make time for your health. Taking care of yourself, however, is the one item on your ‘to do’ list you can’t afford to ignore.

In addition to a healthy, nutritious diet, fitting in regular exercise, getting enough sleep and limiting stress, regular doctor visits are an integral part of a healthy lifestyle. This is where eMedical Urgent Care comes in. In addition to providing immediate care for a variety of infections, illnesses and injuries, we also help avoid preventable diseases through vaccinations, physicals and occupational health services for employers.

Reduce Costs

It’s no surprise that employers have seen their healthcare costs rise dramatically over the years. Employers are able to reduce the costs associated with unhealthful lifestyles and chronic health problems by providing their employees with access to annual physicals, disease management, travel immunizations and flu vaccinations. Nationally, Influenza results in billions of dollars in lost wages every year and recent studies found that an estimated 75 million missed workdays annually, and about 200 million days of restricted activity, are due to this vaccine-preventable disease.

Preventive healthcare programs for employees, such as smoking cessation and weight loss, mean lower healthcare costs for employers and greater worker productivity. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), obesity rates have climbed in the United States and obesity cost U.S. businesses $13 billion a year.

Healthier employees provide continuity for businesses, with fewer disruptions due to absence, greater day‐to‐day productivity, and less turnover.

No Appointment Needed

At eMedical Urgent Care, we understand the importance of getting your ill or injured employee back to work as soon as possible. The CDC noted that ER wait times often vary between 30 and 120 minutes. Our pledge is that, on average, you’ll be seen by one of our professional providers within 30 minutes. Your employees will receive the same quality care they’d receive at an emergency room – without the long wait and expense.

For a business to thrive, employees need to be able to perform their duties on a regular basis. Unfortunately, health issues often arise in a work environment and can lead to an inefficient business. As an employer, you need to make sure the work place is conducive to a healthy lifestyle. One of the best ways to ensure that your workers remain healthy and have the best healthcare possible is through occupational medicine services.

Why Use Occupational Medicine Services?

About Occupational Medicine

Occupational medicine is designed to prevent illness, disease and work-related injuries. The healthcare professionals at eMedical Urgent Care use preventive medicine to help your employees stay healthy all year round through methods such as immunization, routine physicals, and diagnostic and screening services. Vaccinations can be especially helpful during flu season.

Occupational medicine services also extend to drug and alcohol testing. Working with eMedical makes drug and alcohol testing extremely easy. With cost-effective solutions, eMedical can help you perform drug and alcohol tests on your schedule.

When injuries occur on the job, it’s important to have healthcare professionals you can rely on. eMedical Urgent Care provides workers compensation services and can treat on-the-job injuries, including respiratory infections and minor and acute trauma, and provide accurate assessments of the severity of an injury and what kind of rehabilitation, if any, may be necessary. This is especially important if you are in a high-risk field that yields frequent or serious injuries.
